Arranging -- taking a piece of music from any other musical source/style, and "translating" it appropriately and effectively for acoustic flute and guitar -- is the key to the uniqueness of Aprylle and Reed's sound. They have arranged fully 80% of their repertoire. Why do they bother?
Aside from the fact that arranging is intensely creative and satisfying, there are two practical reasons to arrange music: any piece they have to arrange is usually not commercially available for flute and guitar, and they can personalize and write specifically for their musical and technical standards and capabilities.
Every year, Aprylle and Reed receive numerous requests for pieces that aren't in their repertoire. At no additional charge, they will accommodate those requests provided the piece is appropriate for acoustic instruments (no rap tunes), it is playable by flute and guitar (usually don't have enough fingers for symphonic reductions), and there is sufficient time to write the arrangements (generally two months notice).
Please note: Due to a sharply increased demand for custom arrangements, we have to limit free arrangements to a maximum of 2 pieces per event. Additional requests will be charged a variable arranging fee determined by the demands of each individual piece.
Aprylle and Reed have gratefully learned many pieces over the years at the request of their patrons that have become musical staples in their repertoire ... so don't hesitate asking!!
